 Brita Ingalls DeMars

I have a bachelors degree in fine arts with an emphasis in painting. I studied painting at Parsons School of Design in New York, and the University of New Mexico. This education has served me well in my work as a decorative painter in residences, churches, theaters, and state capitols. My experience includes design, layout, and execution of work, on site, for original designs; master drawings; creating stencils; matching colors; freehand painting; striping, and gilding.

Co-Director: Decorative Painting Apprenticeship Program

DPAP, a non-profit pending program, was started in March of 2007 with the mission of providing real-world experiences for decorative painting artisans as well as creating enduring art in public spaces consistent with the goals of public restoration programs. DPAP finds public buildings in need of repair and restoration, suggests design schemes, gathers professionals to teach classes on-site, and recruits students to execute the designs. I am a co-founder as well as being responsible for creating design schemes and presentation materials.

Owner/Operator : Ingalls DeMars Painting

I opened a studio in 2002, with my husband, specializing in designing custom stencils, gilding, architectural trompe l’oeil and a variety of custom decorative and faux finishes for residences and commercial spaces. An example of one project required the restoration of original architectural tompe l’oeil in a mid 19 th century Victorian mansion involving analyzing existing paint and plaster, writing a treatment proposal, color-matching, hand-painting and striping. I have been responsible for all design and execution of work, business related duties including sales, marketing, bids, invoicing, and maintaining documents.

Gallery Assistant: Archipelago

This art gallery and gift store features Maine artists and displays artwork in a variety of media from 2D painting and photography to 3D jewelry, sculpture, pottery and furniture.

Archipelago is a program of the Island Institute of Maine, which advances programs supporting Maine ’s Island communities. I worked on the floor of the gallery greeting customers, selling artwork, and maintaining documentation and inventories of the work of more than 200 artist members.

Freelance Decorative Painter : Evergreene Painting Studios, Inc.

Evergreene is best known for restoring the nation’s most prominent landmarks and creating murals and decorative painting for architectural and interior design firms worldwide. I was involved in all aspects of creating new decorative finishes from design to execution, and assisted the head conservator in documentation and analysis.

Freelance Decorative Painter: John Canning Painting & Conservation Studios

This company specializes in ornamental decorative painting, conservation and restoration of historic interiors. My duties included conservation, documentation and all aspects of creating new decorative finishes from design to execution.

Jewelry Designer’s Assistant: Fibula

Fibula is a small company run by a Jewelry designer, specializing in contemporary Southwestern silver and semi-precious stone jewelry designs. I created jewelry for the designer, which involved soldering, setting stones, beading and assembly. My duties included inventory management, packaging and shipping.

Assistant to Director of Service Department

Aaron Faber Gallery

Aaron Faber Gallery is world-famous for three areas of expertise; contemporary studio jewelry, classic jewelry new and old, and collectible time pieces. Aaron Faber provides professional services such as appraisals; fine jewelry repair and restoration, and estate buying and selling. I was a fully bonded liaison working closely with the Service Director, clients, and independent craftsmen for repairs of antique watches and fine jewelry. I was responsible for pick-up and delivery of merchandise, as well as maintaining repair and inventory records.
