Trompe l' Oeil "Striping"

The trompe l' oeil class is the technique of striping. Using lining "boards" or what I call striping sticks, you will learn this forgotten art. Because it is technique, no art background is needed. This type painting was once found in finer homes , churches, and hotels in the mid 1800s. It dates back to the 1700s in Canada when brought to North America from Europe. We will teach our method of color mixing, layout, and use of the lining brush with stick! You will take home 2 sample boards (photo is one of them) of various architectural moldings in trompe l' oeil. Also of an ornament. This technique is also the best way to place an accent stripe on a wall, or simply paint mortar joints in your "faux" block or brick. This technique when used with glaze gives your marble or wood graining the "trompe l' oeil" carved or panel look. The "stick" and brushes are yours to keep. Water base paints used.

Gilding

Patent gold leaf and rolled "ribbon leaf" is the primary subject, discussing oil and acrylic size, application of leaf, sealants, and composite leaf. Projects will include 23 ct. gold, "Dutch metal", and aluminum leaf. We will use loose leaf and ribbon. Instruction and hands on using the proper sealants. Hands on using a "gilders Wheel". In class we will use 1 hour oil size and acrylic size.

 

This class is focussed on production stlye gilding. How to do a ceiling or wall quickly, perfectly and which materials are best for each circumstance.
